Who We Found by Time Out KL

Interesting band name. What’s the story?
Coca D Monday stands for Coke On Monday. This happened on our first meeting before we decided to form a band. At that time, we had ordered the same beverage, it was coke and it was on a Monday.

Who is Coca D Monday?
We are a big group with Deck on vocals, Ardiv on lead guitar, Zach on rhythm guitar, Skaloot on bass, Edy on Hammond keyboard, Jazz on saxophone, Rudy on trumpet and Muneer on drums.

How is it writing your own songs?
Challenging and sometimes can be quite hard but full of satisfaction. You always need full commitment and idea to create and compose quality and nice songs. It forces us to come out with everything that’s needed especially creativity in term of lyrics, arrangement, harmonization and etc. The most valuable thing is it’s our masterpiece!

You have a single playing on radio now. Any plans for an EP or album?
Yes. We are on our journey to finish up our latest single (4th song) called ‘Pantai Ombak Jahat’. Now still under recording process. We will launch out EP once our 5th song (called ‘Silly Sunday’) is recorded and we’re targeting to complete the EP by the end of the year.

What do you think of the reggae scene in KL?
We have a one small music community in Malaysia that we called Indie Scene. Reggae is one part of it. So far as we are concern, there’s nothing much happening in our own scene because the genre is the minority. Just once a while we will hang out together to discuss about our music scene, upcoming show, collaboration, exchanging ideas and hang out.

If Coca D Monday got to collaborate with someone on recording one track, who would that be?
Herman Tino, Salleh Yaacob and Zainal Abidin.

Which song would you recommend to first time listener of Coca D Monday? Why?
Our recommendation is ‘Matahari’ because of the song itself. It has a very own class and standard in its lyrics and music arrangement. Kind of light music, easy listening and approachable. This song deliver every content in it successfully. That’s why it became our first choice for those who want to listen to us.

Coca D Monday is slated to perform at No Black Tie during Time Out KL’s music showcase night, On The Up, Oct 21
